Pregnancy Care Options
In Australia, overseas visitors, overseas students and patients who are not eligible for Medicare under their current VISA arrangements are required to pay for the cost of their health care. Please contact the Overseas Liaison Officer on (08) 6457 8709 or email OPH.PPLO@health.wa.gov.au to obtain information regarding fees for your appointment.
Women and Newborn Health Service at Osborne Park Hospital offer the following pregnancy care options.
Midwifery Antenatal Postnatal Service (MAPS)
The Midwifery Antenatal Postnatal Service (MAPS) model of care is a continuity of care model and provides a named midwife for each booking woman to provide almost all antenatal care and education, and postnatal home support and care (for at least five days) to women within their caseload. Acceptance into the model will be based on local eligibility criteria and availability. If the case load for the MAP is fully booked, women wanting the MAPS model will be added to the waitlist and seen in the general midwives’ clinics.
See the MAPs page for more information.
GP Shared Care
Care is provided by your General Practitioner (GP) up to and including the birth (if your GP has admitting privileges*) with visits to our antenatal clinic planned at particular stages in the pregnancy.
There is no out-of-pocket cost for hospital services provided by GP obstetricians but there may be consultation costs for antenatal visits at the GP consultation rooms.
Please note to ensure physical distancing requirements are maintained for safety, we can only allow the patient and one support person/or one child to attend any antenatal clinic appointments.
Midwifery Group Practice (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse)

The Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) model of care offers personalised, culturally sensitive maternity care for women from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. Women can ask their GP to request this model on the antenatal referral, or they may be allocated to the model if deemed suitable. The program is available to women of all risk categories.
Care is provided by your primary midwife and a small team of known midwives, ensuring continuity and a trusted relationship throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period. Your midwives will also work in a team with obstetricians and paediatricians. All of the specialist and support services of OPH are available if required.
Antenatal appointments are offered either in the hospital or in the comfort of your home, depending on your needs. Birth care is provided at the hospital, with postnatal visits continuing in your home to support you and your baby during the first week.
If the MGP is fully booked, you can request to be added to the waitlist. If there are no available spaces, you will be cared for by the general midwives’ clinics at OPH. If a space becomes available and you are on the waitlist, you will be contacted and offered to have your care transferred to the MGP model.
Our MGP midwives are committed to delivering respectful, woman-centred, individualised care, that honours your cultural values and preferences, helping you feel informed, empowered, and supported every step of the way.
