iDecide Consumer Advisory Group
Please note, this is a closed group. Members are invited to join.
iDecide is a Consumer Advisory Group at Osborne Park Hospital made up of volunteers who live with aphasia.
Aphasia is a condition caused by damage to the language centres of the brain, most commonly following a stroke. Approximately one in three people experience aphasia after a stroke. It affects a person’s ability to communicate, including speaking, understanding, reading and writing; however, it does not impact intelligence.
iDecide members contribute their lived experience to help improve services for people with aphasia, while also supporting and empowering current patients.
Responsibilities may include:
- Reviewing materials: Members assess hospital resources—such as printed handouts, posters, videos, and wayfinding signage — to ensure they are accessible and aphasia-friendly.
- Inpatient support: Volunteers facilitate group sessions and meet with patients on the Stroke Rehabilitation Ward, sharing their recovery journeys to provide guidance and encouragement.
- Empowerment: By sharing their lived experiences, members help patients understand what to expect during recovery and contribute to improving services at OPH.
iDecide members meet monthly and undertake other activities on an ad-hoc basis.
