An exciting new Sir Charles Gairdner Osborne Park Health Care Group (SCGOPHCG) shared care dispensing (SCD) initiative is now being trialled at our Osborne Park Hospital (OPH) Pharmacy.

The initiative aims to make accessing medications easier for outpatients of Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH), by allowing those outpatients who meet certain criteria to collect their medications at either SCGH or OPH.

Melinda Leeder, Coordinator Pharmacy said patients have the option to access their medication from the hospital pharmacy that is preferable, based on their own personal circumstances, which may include being closer to home or easier to access via public transport.

“OPH is considerably closer for many SCGH clinic patients who live in the northern suburbs and parking is currently free and plentiful at OPH,” Melinda said.

This trial program will run until November 2021 and is specifically aimed at patients who attend the SCGH Pain Clinic and are currently prescribed lidocaine (lignocaine) 5% patches.

“Our staff are constantly looking at ways to improve our patients’ experience and this is another measure we are trialling to help make things easier for eligible patients as they can collect their medication from either SCGH or OPH Pharmacy during this period,” said Melinda.

Pharmacy staff will discuss any changes of arrangements with patients during the SCD trial program.
